The 215km long medium mountain stage from Benevento to San Giorgio del Sannio tests the riders on Stage 9 of the 2015 Giro d’Italia.  With the rest day looming, some very tired legs will not enjoy this route replete with three categorized climbs.

The first 77kms or so should be “routine” enough to allow the break to form in advanced of the testing part of the day.  After this, however, the riders begin a nearly 20km ascent up Monte Terminio—a cat-2 climb with a feed zone at the top.  A quick downhill into the first intermediate sprint, then the riders will begin up the cat-1 Colle Molella almost immediately.  Once again, the intermediate sprint follows pretty quickly on the descent of this climb.

A very bumpy 70kms follows to the final climb of the day, the cat-2 Passo Serra.  The summit is just 10kms from the finale of the stage, so the person most-willing to take chances on the downhill will probably nip away with victory!
