Hopefully the riders didn’t spend every last bit of energy on the ITT since this stage is sure to be quite daunting as well.  It’s 165kms from Marostica to Madonna Di Camiglio.  I feel a break will try to go out early before the tougher climbs start, but it will depend on who is in the group as to how much of a lead they will be granted.

While the start of the race is undulating with uncategorized climbs, the first test will befall the riders at 60kms with the cat-2 La Fricca.  The descent has some bumps along the way before the riders stant immediately up the Monte Bondone to reach the feed zone in Vigolo Baselga.

Again, the riders will descend just to immediately tilt back upwards to the Point Arche for the first intermediate sprint.  A false flat will lead the riders to the cat-1 Passo Daone which also possess a very quick descent.  Towards the end of the valley, Pinzolo will host the second intermediate sprint before the finish on the summit of the Madonna Di Campiglio, a cat-1 climb.  This is a tough stage to predict.  Riders who pushed too hard on the ITT may struggle on the constant up and down.  Those who saved some energy may be able to take advantage of their competitors.  But, with the second rest day looming, all may be willing to dip into the red a bit.
