From the BBC: Man Wakes up with Bike Lock Around His Neckulockneck

Looking for a good bike lock? An unnamed 20-something in Coventry, UK, can attest to the nigh-impenetrable qualities of the Magnum Plus U-lock after waking up from a night out with it secured to his neck.

Welcome to the Wacky Wednsday Report

This week the adage is "watch out for that tree" as one Cannondale/Garmin rider tells himself as he hit the tarmac.

Stage 4 of the Tour de Suisse, the peloton is moving rapidly along a tree and bush lined roadway when "bam" a tree branch appears out into the roadway and takes out a Cannondale rider.Screenshot 2015 06 17 09 19 56Here's a link to the youtube video, he must not have seen the Que from his teammate in front of him.

Wheely Wacky ReportIMG 20150519 214653

This week at the Giro d'italia these two "Mates" forget about the word "Team" that is included in the UCI rule book.

*Rules are Rules Mate, and if the UCI enforces the rule I say it's about time! Porte had team "Mates" waiting and watching the wheel change. If only someone would have done the "Team Mate" thing and offer up his wheel then Porte would not have been penalized 2 minutes.

There's a lot of smack talk toward the UCI about enforcing this rule, but then again there's always complaints when they are not enforcing the rules.

Now if only the UCI could get the "sticky bottle" out of the team car.....

Welcome to the Wacky Wednesday Report

After a Holiday break we are back with this week's report, and we find former Pro Racer Greg Lemond offering help to the UCI.ccn p51lemond 670Greg LeMond has suggested that a simple way to detect if riders have hidden motors in their bikes is to use a heat-detecting gun, even during races.

LeMond is convinced that motors have been used in the peloton and that a heat gun and banning bike changes could be a simple but effective deterrents.

“I know that motors exist, I’ve ridden a bike with one and I’ve met the inventor and talked about it. If people think they don’t exist, they’re fooling themselves, so I think it’s a justified suspicion. I believe it’s also been used in the peloton. It seems too incredible that someone would do it, but I know it’s real,” he said.

Dowsett seals GC victory in Germany

It got as close as it could be to a 'comfortable' defense for Alex Dowsett as the 26-year-old Briton conquered the 36th edition of Bayern-Rundfahrt (UCI 2.HC) in south Germany following the final circuits in Nürnberg (198km). The whole Movistar Team led the Essex boy home brilliantly, with all Soler, Sanz, Capecchi, Moreno, Anacona and Sütterlin - combined with sports direction by José Luis Arrieta and José Luis Laguía - entirely focused on the UCI Hour Record holder's success.

A five-man break avoided any of the three intermediate sprints being contested by Dowsett's nearest rival Tiago Machado (KAT), which meant he only had to keep any gaps into the final bunck kick tight to conserve the yellow jersey. It's Alex's 10th pro victory - his first overall classification after 24-hour stints in yellow at both the Circuit de la Sarthe and the Tour of Britain last year - and also the Movistar Team's 23rd success of the 2015 season, only thirteen short of their best record in 1998 with almost five months of competitions still to come.
