Cyclists should follow the lead of successful bicycle mechanics by properly maintaining their bikes before and after each ride to prevent major problems from occurring. "Small, easily addressed issues can develop into dangerous and expensive failures if left unattended," says Daimeon Shanks, a former elite-level racer and mechanic for Garmin-Transitions ProTour cycling team and the U.S. national cycling team. "In about the time it takes to down a postride espresso at your local coffee shop, you can give your bike the same attention that the pros bikes receive after each race."

UCI Checking the Conformity of Approved Frames and Forks in the Field

During the Tour de France 2012, the International Cycling Union has inaugurated checks of approved frames and forks in the field; this is done using a scanner. These checks enable the verification of the equipment used by the riders with respect to their conformance to the standards submitted by manufacturers to UCI for approval. In fact, since 1st January 2011 every new model of frame and fork must undergo a process resulting in the delivery of the “UCI Frame” label. This measure strengthens compliance with UCI regulations, and therefore guarantees the principle of equality between competitors.

LIEGE, Belgium – Team Sky and Pinarello announced on the eve of the Tour that they had extended their sponsorship agreement through the end of 2013. Pinarello has sponsored Sky, which is led by Tour favorite Bradley Wiggins, since the team's inaugural season in 2010.
